Event: Cyclone Lucas Approaching Vanuatu (February 1, 2021)
The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department and the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center advise that Cyclone Lucas is approaching Vanuatu Group. Damaging gale force winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and rough seas are expected within the next the next 24 hours, particularly in and around the central and southern islands. U.S. citizens should closely monitor Radio Vanuatu and other local media outlets for the most up-to-date information and take steps to prepare themselves and their families.

- Find safe and secure accommodation
- Monitor Radio Vanuatu and VMGD for up-to-date warnings and forecasting data
- Be aware that a storm’s path and intensity may change unpredictably
- Follow the instructions of local authorities
- Be aware of the possibility of flash flooding, damaging winds, and effects to local services
- Avoid travel in and through affected areas
- Advise family and friends of your whereabouts
