We have updated our travel advisory for Papua New Guinea to include information regarding kidnapping and piracy and to clarify our advice regarding the Highlands region. The overall travel advisory for Papua New Guinea remains Level 3: Reconsider Travel.
The summary paragraph of the travel advisory is as follows:
Reconsider travel to Papua New Guinea due to crimecivil unrest, and piracy. Exercise increased caution due to kidnappingunexploded ordnance, inconsistent availability of healthcare services, and potential for natural disasters. Some areas have increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory.
Do not travel to:
  • Southern Bougainville, particularly areas near the Panguna mine, due to civil unrest.
  • The Highlands region, other than the towns of Mt. Hagen and Goroka, due to civil unrest.
