The Governor-General of Solomon Islands announced a curfew for the city of Honiara from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, and no end date has been specified.
Demonstrations continue throughout Honiara. A number of private businesses and some public offices have been looted and burned. Police have closed routes throughout the city without prior notice. Foreign security forces, in response to a request from the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, have been deployed to protect critical infrastructure.
U.S. citizens in Honiara are advised to review their personal security and emergency preparedness plans. Note the possibility of reduced access to and inventory in grocery stores, pharmacies, and other local businesses. Be aware that emergency services may have a reduced capacity to respond to personal medical, fire, or security emergencies.
