Foreign Service Officer Test Offered in POM

The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby is requesting information on anyone who is interested in taking the Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT). The Embassy is willing to host the testing site if there are interested applicants, but we would need to know now, so as to apply for the hosting capabilities. The actual test will be held in February, 2018.

  • Tuesday, December 12, 2017:  The list of overseas posts offering the test will be available on
  • Wednesday, December 27, 2017:  The test registration window opens.  The window will be open for four weeks for candidates to submit applications and schedule seats.
  • February, 2018:  The FSOT test is administered at the U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby, PNG. Exact dates will be announced once Port Moresby has been designated a testing site.

Reduced Hours During the Holidays and APEC Year

The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby will have limited hours for both American Citizen Services and Visa Interviews over the next couple of months. We will be closed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, as well as having reduced hours for all services as we prepare for APEC throughout the coming year. Please check our website for closures, and apply well in advance of any upcoming travel. For American citizens, please make sure you always have at least six months validity in your passport, and keep it in a safe place. As always, the Embassy is normally open for American Citizen Services every Monday and Wednesday morning by appointment at the Travel.State.Gov website.
